The aftermath of breast cancer is the most difficult part of the journey. It was in this crucible of struggle that six sisters in survivorship - Rose, Laurie, Karen,Melissa, Heather and Sharon set out on this journey of documenting their lives after the storm.
Cancer? Seriously? focuses on survivorship and the struggles women and their families face as they move on after breast cancer treatment. The issues are various and not easily defined, especially in regard to public awareness.
They include:
PTSD, having just faced your own mortality at a young age is huge and may cause anxiety, depression etc
Physical side effects of maintenance meds- joint pain, fatigue, hormone imbalances, weight gain
Facing further decisions and treatments if BRCA+
Lymphadema
Chemo-brain, which includes difficulty multi-tasking, shortened attention span, short term memory loss
Changes in sexuality, loss of desire, premature menopause, infertility
Body Image changes due to new scars and surgeries which can effect relationships, self-confidence, sexual relationships
Guilt over taking time to be treated and now everyone expects you to be 100%, not wanting to burden family and friends anymore.
Fear of remission - if cancer can happen once it can happen again, right?
Cancer? Seriously? explores these issues while following six amazing women as they face life after breast cancer.
An honest, uplifiting and heartbreaking film, Cancer? Seriously? will no doubt touch many, many people... just as this disease has touched countless families already.
